What is therapy?
Therapy provides a unique opportunity to form a relationship with an empathic professional for you to learn the tools you need and to join you in the journey toward self-discovery, growth and change.
What is our approach to therapy?
Our therapeutic styles are warm, interactive, and empathetic. You will be treated with care and respect. You can count on authenticity, an appreciation of where you have been, and an objective and non-judgmental stance. This is your place and time to conquer issues that are getting in the way of having the life you desire.
Why do therapy?
Every one of us experiences times in our lives when we need a little extra help to figure things out. It is never easy to take the step to go to therapy and it can be very hard to not only talk about your problems but to do it with someone you just met. Whatever the problem may be, the support and insight of a therapist can be very helpful. Making that first call for help can be difficult but it can lead you to answers you didn’t know you had in yourself.
Is therapy effective?
Overall, people in therapy tend to have lower levels of anxiety and stress, decreased conflict and improved quality of life. In order for that to happen, you must be an active participant in treatment during the sessions and integrate what was discussed into your life. Therapy works because it offers a space to reflect, gather insight, learn skills to cope with strong emotions, feel inspired, valued and heard. Our guiding principles are respect, appreciation of differences and a balance between acceptance and change. We listen carefully and center the therapy around your needs. Through a truly mutual collaboration, we can find ways to solve problems and create healing leading to better relationships, solutions to specific problems, and significant reductions in feelings of stress & conflict and improved quality of life.
What happens in therapy?
In the first few sessions we will gather information about your background and the issues that led you to seek therapy at this time. We will then discuss with you our impressions and recommendations for us to pursue in treatment. If you need a service that we cannot provide we will help assist you in obtaining appropriate providers. During therapy we will talk about the primary issues and concerns in your life as well as ancillary matters as they arise, with a view towards gaining greater insight into these problems and implementing more adaptive coping strategies.
How often should I come to therapy?
Most people attend therapy at least once per week or every two weeks. It is very individualized. Depending on your current circumstances and needs, we can discuss whether treatment of greater or lesser frequency seems appropriate.
How long will I be in therapy?
The duration of treatment varies from person to person based on one’s goals and the nature of the presenting problem.
How long are the therapy sessions?
Typical sessions are 45 to 55 minutes, unless otherwise arranged. Out of respect for you and other clients, we will begin and end on time. You are welcome to come for your appointment if you are late, but the session will end on the original scheduled time.
